Creating a blog is one of the best things you can do to draw traffic to your website and social media accounts which in turn gets you more customers.
One of the problems though is the amount of time it takes to write an article and even the amount of time it takes just to think of something to write about especially when you’re starting to run dry on ideas. We’ll cover some techniques we use with our clients that streamline the process and automate a lot of the work.
There’s a few different avenues you can take when it comes to setting up a tradie blog. The most time consuming but potentially having the best results is to start a blog similar to this one, so writing an article every week and then re-posting the article on a few social media platforms. We generally don’t recommend this though as it can take quite a bit of time and unless you’re a larger business it’s just too hard to keep up the momentum. For most sole traders and small businesses we recommend setting up one social media account and using that as your blog and integrating it into your website so it doubles as a gallery or news section.
Facebook and Instagram seem to work well for most of our clients as it’s very quick and easy to post a picture of your current job with a description and hash tags to go with it. SS Bricklaying does a great job of this where their Instagram account acts as a gallery on the website.
When starting a blog it’s easy to get carried away and post something everyday for the first few weeks but then loose the momentum and eventually give up on the blog. If you start a blog you have to be dedicated to it but take it easy and don’t over do it. A set of images on either Facebook or Instagram once a week with a brief description and a few hash tags is all you need.
